Alternative Billing Structure

Alternative Billing

Couhig Partners is a leading proponent of alternative billing, a value driven fee structure. Unlike hourly billing, alternative billing offers clients a value-based fee structure that offers clients a fixed price and shares risk. The inherent conflict of hourly billing is that lawyers are encouraged to bill as many hours as possible. Couhig Partners will work with clients in advance to create a fee structure that is efficient, value-based, certain and that rewards results. We feel that alternative billing is the future of the legal industry and it is a priority at Couhig Partners.

We also offer an hourly billing structure for clients who would rather use the more traditional billing model. We have handled certain litigation matters on a contingency fee basis as well. Couhig Partners will help you achieve your business goals by structuring a fee arrangement which best suits your business model and gives you the greatest value for the work.

Miscellaneous Costs Options

Instead of being billed for copy charges, postage and long distance, many clients would rather a flat communication fee. Many Couhig Partners clients have a 3% communications fee added to the total fee reflected on the billing statement. This communications fee is added instead of billing clients for out of pocket communication expenses such as faxes, copies and long distance phone calls.

Many clients find this method to be a far more efficient way to review fees and anticipate communication costs. We have compared the communications fee against normal miscellaneous billing and found that the cost was usually the same.

The communications fee also fits into our alternative profit model. By reducing the time our staff spends tracking each expense, we can focus on actual client needs while reducing our overhead costs. Of course, if clients choose, we are happy to provide a traditional, itemized method of miscellaneous billing.
